The Lion King

Historical sales record in Middle East

Disney’s The Lion King Set for Middle East Debut in Abu Dhabi November 2022. Marking its 25-year anniversary, the world-famous, award-winning musical is set for a historical 4-week run in the UAE capital from November 16 to December 10 at Yas Island’s Etihad Arena breaking the all-time record in sales in the region with more than 50,000 tickets sold.

It wasn’t been an easy journey for the more than 125 company members from around the world at more than 30 performances at the Etihad Arena. As has been the case since its premiere on Broadway in November 1997, after 25 years of performance and more than 110 million viewers worldwide, the reception by the audience and the specialized public in Abu Dhabi was overwhelming, something that the creator and director of the original show herself, Julie Taymor, witnessed first-hand during her visit to the premiere.
